Thoughtful Thursday…One thing we need for optimal health...

Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday. This GreenNote Fitness newsletter mindfully gathers and distills useful information that is supportive to our journey. It is my mission to educate, inspire, and propel you into action that moves you towards your goals and life of purpose. Take control of your journey today.

December - Renewal

For the month of December we focus on renewal. We explore different ways that we can rejuvenate and restore from within. GreenNote Fitness invites you to pause and assess what’s serving you and what can help you replenish.

Looking back through my training journal, I came across similar notations: “…right hip and back sore…”; “…feels like I fell on my tailbone…”, “lower back on right side is hurting…”. These type of notes I made on and off for the better part of a year. A year. Why was I having issues with one side of my back and or hip? Did I move in the wrong way? Lift too much weight? Perhaps if I had made room for one thing that every human needs, then just may be I wouldn’t have gotten to the point of not being able to bend over, put on shoes and socks, and missing work. I have since become (painfully) aware that every human being needs…a winter. As Paul Chek describes in his Chek Alchemy Process, we have different phases of our lives correlating to the seasons. Spring is the planning phase; Summer is the action phase; Fall is our celebration phase; and Winter is our rest phase. Ah, a rest phase. Let's explore further.

Chek explains that we all need to regenerate ourselves by using introspection and meditation, leaving a door open for intuition. We need to calm the mind enough so that we can ‘listen’ to what is working for us. How did I feel by doing “x”? By not doing “x”? Winter is a symbol of a type of energy. Think of a tree. It takes the energy from above and stores it down, into the earth. It regenerates so next season it can grow bigger. For the month of December I will be spending time reflecting on this past year. Looking at all aspects, what worked well, what could be improved, for what was unavoidable, and asking questions such as, “Am I spending time recovering?" How have I nourished my mind, body, and spirit? Where do I need to make changes? Does your journey have four seasons? Take some time to reflect, quiet your mind so you can open the door to intuition. Take energy from above, draw it in, and doing so replenish yourself so next season you can grow your mind, body, and spirit. All the notes I made this past year in my training journal, the ones that captured the unusual pain and soreness in my back and hip? It had to do with a joint being severely inflamed. I needed to quiet my mind to understand this. Fortunately I have people in my life that were able to hear clearly and point me on a better path. Now I need to reflect, quiet my mind, and give myself permission to rest. After all, every human being needs a…winter. Did you miss last week’s newsletter community member profile of Ian ...? You wouldn’t happen to know just one person that would benefit from this information? Please forward it to them. To your journey, Lisa Schaffer GreenNote Fitness P.S.
