Thoughtful Thursday...

Thoughful contemplation

I’ve got some goodness in store for you today. We will explore:

  • An important article on cholesterol that is a must read (and watch - there is a video link in the article)

  • A quote on meditation that will be helpful if you ever have felt intimidated to begin or don’t think you are 'doing it right'

  • An exercise that has many benefits…I’ve started doing these every day.

Let’s dig in! How to lower cholesterol I shared this article on my FaceBook page. It is important so I wanted to be sure to share it here in case you missed it. Perhaps controversial, a doctor discusses, among many things, how to lower your cholesterol and LDL with diet alone and avoid having to take statins. As my economics professor would say, “sounds like a feasible solution”. Tara Brach Quote on Meditation I found this very helpful with regards to understanding a benefit of meditation. I often hear people say they can’t clear their head during mediation and keep thinking. They get frustrated because they don’t think they are mediating correctly. Having thoughts or thinking during mediation is normal. As Tara points out the gold is when you notice your mind has wondered. "…if you even spend a second noticing this wandering and bringing your attention back to your mantra (or whatever), that is a 'successful 'session…” . Read more on Tim Ferriss' blog. Exercise of the week Drumroll please. The Turkish Get-Up (TGU) is the exercise of the week. I first learned this exercise at a conference I attended that had an optional bootcamp each morning prior to the session. Never heard of the TGU? To see this exercise in action, click on the video link of me performing this very curious sounding exercise. Here are some of the benefits to the Turkish Get-Up:

  • Promotes upper and lower body stabilization

  • Stimulates the three systems that contribute to balance: vestibular; visual; and proprioceptive

  • Develops upper body, trunk, and hip strength
