Thoughtful Thursday…3 alternatives to soda

Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday. This GreenNote Fitness newsletter mindfully gathers and distills useful information that is supportive to our journey. It is my mission to educate, inspire, and propel you into action that moves you towards your goals and life of purpose. Take control of your journey today.

Pulling back the tab on the aluminum can, the sound of a cool refreshment being open drifts through the air. Awe, this will taste wonderful. The great thing is, it doesn’t have the harmful chemicals that a regular soda contains.

Something that is refreshing and isn’t soda? Too good to be true? What if I told you that there are even more soda alternatives that instead of being harmful and contribute to weight gain, are actually good for you? Sit tight, you are about to discover 3 alternatives to soda that will help to improve your health and not degrade it.

Maybe your go-to beverage of choice is a soda or perhaps an energy drink. Today, I want to introduce you to some healthy alternatives that will leave you feel refreshened, energized, and having done something good for your health.

Let’s take a look!

Zevia

Zevia

If you are really hankering for a soda, this is as close to a substitute as you can get. As the name of the product suggests, this is made with stevia. Unlike other sugar substitutes, stevia is derived from a plant. It has no calories and is 200 times sweeter than sugar in the same concentration. It comes in many different flavors and made with real ingredients.

Sparkling Mineral Water

Sparkling mineral water can be carbonated so it resembles soda in that manner. Sometimes carbonation may just be what you are craving and actually not the contents of soda. San Pellegrino is one of my favorite mineral waters. When I do my extended fasts, I rely heavily on this as it provides the feeling of fullness.

As Dave Asprey explains, "Mineral water is one of the most underrated supplements out there. It isn’t just the delicious fizzy taste; it also contains, as you might guess, some minerals! One under-appreciated mineral is sulfate, and there is lots of sulfate in San Pellegrino compared to most other mineral waters."

Red Juice

Red Juice by Organifi

As I wrote about in my newsletter, “A ‘Pure’ healthy drink I’m enjoying…”, products from Organifi are very nutritious and made with superfoods. Organifi also makes a red juice. Some of the ingredients include: blueberries; strawberries; pomegranate; raspberry; cranberry; acai; beets (can’t taste it); and Reishi mushroom (can’t taste it - promotes liver health for improved detoxing). Those ingredients give the juice its rich color and sweetness. For metabolism and energy boosting, they’ve included cordyceps, rhodiola, and Siberian Ginseng.

I just use a scoop and mix it with water. It’s good in the morning or whenever. I personally will drink it in the afternoon as a pick-me-up. The fruits provide the sweetness and it tastes great. You can read more about it here.

If you are trying to ditch the soda habit or are just looking for something different to drink, consider one of the above options. If you are long-time daily consumer of soda, give your tastebuds time to adjust to new flavors. The chemicals in soda can work to de-sensitize our tastebuds leaving us not appreciating the taste of something real.

Here’s to getting real!

Enjoy your journey,

Lisa Schaffer
