Research on leadership shows that leaders who are “in a learning mode” develop stronger leadership skills than their peers. “…leaders set challenging learning goals in the form of ‘I need to learn how to…’”. I love this! It applies not just in the office but in our daily lives. What mindset do we bring forth? Be a good leader. Be a good learner. Thoughtful advice from a father to his son. Something worth everyone reading as it applies not just to those entering the workplace. Book - Mindset - The New Psychology of Success - How we Can Learn to Fulfill our Potential by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D.

Dweck’s research reflects two ways of thinking; growth mindset and fixed mindset. Essentially we can achieve success, reach our goals through hard work and thinking without limits. In other words, it’s more than our abilities and talent that can propel us to greatness. You don’t have to be born a genius to learn. Anyone can. She cites many examples. This book would be valuable to anyone, but especially for parents, teachers, coaches, and students. Video - Exercise to do at your desk I recommend to my clients to set a timer and stand up from the desk at least every hour. This video shows you two easy exercises that you can do at your desk that will help with posture from being hunched over a computer all day. Exercises:

  • Banded over and backs

  • Pull aparts
