Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday. This GreenNote Fitness newsletter mindfully gathers and distills useful information that is supportive to our journey. It is my mission to educate, inspire, and propel you into action that moves you towards your goals and life of purpose. Take control of your journey today.

Healthy leafy greens and veggies

Let’s face it, we all want to look and feel great, right? Wouldn’t it be great if we felt amazing and energized each and every day? If we want to even come close to realizing that, we need to take measures to ensure this is a possibility. Today I share with you five things I do to help feel energized and ready to go. 1.) 8-ounce glass of water with lime first thing in the morning Upon waking I reach for my 8-ounce glass of water with a squeeze of 1/4 lime and consume while I’m getting ready. This replenishes hydration levels that decreased while sleeping and it helps the body clear out metabolic waste products. The lime (lemon could also be used) provides vitamin C, bioflavonoids, and potassium. These nutrients have an alkalizing impact (helps pH levels) when they are metabolized by the body. I enjoy my morning glass of water, knowing that it is nourishing the body and mind. 2.) Eat healthy fats like an avocado Good fats are good for you. Re-read that first sentence. Not only are avocados satiating but they contain trace minerals magnesium, potassium, iron, and copper. They have B vitamins, Vitamin K, and fiber. They have virtually no sugar nor protein so you can eat them instead of eating carbs or excessive proteins. I have at least one avocado per day, usually on my spinach salad. If I have a big training day, I may also include one with an egg, or just by itself with a hint of himalaya sea salt. 3.) Drink Green Juice At least once a day I consume an 8-ounce glass of water mixed with dried superfood powder made by Organifi. This is in addition to the first morning glass of water. This Green Juice is chalked full of nutrients like chlorella, moringa, spirulina, turmeric, to name a few. It is my go-to drink pre or post workout and also when I travel. This is especially handy when you don’t have access to quality foods; I know that I can “get my greens in” for the day. It’s quick and easy and refreshing! 4.) Eat blueberries This tasty fruit is rich in phytonutrients, Vitamin C, and fiber. They contain polyphenols which are a type of antioxidants found in plants. They protect against cellular damage from oxidation and provide protective properties for our mitochondria. I like blueberries on my salad, just by themselves, or as a dessert - blueberries and a little bit of almond butter. Yum! 5.) Always have a bowl of leafy greens and vegetables ready to go Sundays are my meal prep days. It’s when I wash and chop leafy greens and vegetables and place in a gigantic bowl. I use this for my lunches each day. I just transfer to a smaller glass bowl and take with me. Also, I set this gigantic bowl of goodness out on the counter while we are preparing dinner. That way we are more likely to “snack” on something healthy than nibble a way on something else. With all the work done ahead of time, it makes it easier to reach for something that will be nutritious. These five nutrition tips have severed me well. I can certainly tell the difference of implementing these five tips and not. I feel more energized and well-balanced. It is a good idea to evaluate your nutritional intake. Where do you excel? Where could you improve? Start small and be consistent. Enjoy your journey, Lisa Schaffer GreenNote Fitness You wouldn’t happen to know just one person that would benefit from this information?
