Board of advisors for your health…?

As tax season is fast approaching, some of you may be utilizing a CPA. Others may have a lawyer they consult with or a financial advisor. How about an advisor for your health? Sure, you may go to a doctor once a year or abide by a “health” sticker on foods in your company vending machine, but what are you doing the rest of the year? Do you have someone to hold you accountable for your health and well being? I recently listened to an interview with the founder and CEO of FitLife.tv., an on-line health and wellness media channel that provides an organic superfood supplement line, Organifi (which I consume almost daily). The founder, Drew Canole, was speaking about his fitness program and how extremely important recovery is for him. In fact, it’s his number one thing for health. What really caught my attention was a term he used to describe this - a board of advisors for one’s health. He meets with his ‘board’ once a quarter, sometimes once a week for the purpose of taking the best care of himself that he can. Members of his board include an acupuncturist, massage therapist, naturopathic doctor, psychologist, and trigger point therapist. What he has found is that his recovery has gone through the roof. As Drew states, it is an investment in money and time but when focused on the right things, it results in many benefits. Board of advisors for your health. I love that! Having people in your life that can help you be accountable, can help guide you when you are off course, or help you gain clarity. If you have been following GNF for a while, you know that we focus on the ‘whole’, integrated person in fitness for body, fitness for mind, and fitness for spirit. We can apply the ‘board of advisors’ to each aspect of our lives. Currently my board looks like this:

  • Body - A trainer, a massage therapist, an Active Release Therapist

  • Mind - Boat Crew (my team from a conference that we keep in contact with and encourage through a dedicated Facebook page)

  • Spirit - Friends that meet once a month to support one another. In-between that time we often text or talk

I never before viewed them as a board of advisors; or make that fitness board of advisors. Framing it in that manner helps to shed light on its importance and to know we can’t do it all alone. This helps keep a front-sight focus. How do we view the bigger picture? It all comes back to mindset. Over to you. Who’s on your fitness board of advisors? Who do you have to help keep you on track, who will be there for you when you need help? Already have a board? Thank them. We are all in this together.
