Here's what I've been doing for Body, Mind, and Spirit

Body

I came across this quote on movement and thought it helps to explain its importance. “In Nature, we never repeat the same motion; in captivity (office, gym, commute, sports), life is just repetitive-stress injury. No randomness.” ~ Nassim Taleb*

Lately I've become more and more interested in mobility. Mobility is our ability to take the body through a range of motion with control. Strength, coordination, and body awareness are elements of mobility. Here are a few reasons it's important: reduced risk of injury; decreased soreness and joint pain; more muscle activation; increased range of motion for increased strength potential.

I love how it makes me feel; being able to connect the body and mind is a gift. Mobility is helpful for living greatly and will benefit us as we age. One movement I've been working with my clients on is the Bear Crawl. It is great for shoulders, back, glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, and core. It also improves coordination and body awareness.

Mind

Whether I need to focus, relax, or sleep, I've been using my Brain.fm app. The science behind their product is pretty wild yet all very concrete. You see, Brain.fm uses technology to create music that impacts your mental state.

They define it this way: Brain.fm holds patents on key processes for creating functional music, including technology to elicit strong neural phase locking - allowing populations of neurons to engage in various kinds of coordinated activity - and technology to remove distraction in sound. This makes our music unique, purpose-built to steer you into a desired mental state. In other words, we've found new ways to create music that helps you do what you need to do.

I'm really enjoying listening to Forrest to send me off into a good night's sleep. I'm currently using one of the focus modules, Rain forest, while I write this. Brain.fm explains: the session will not only focus you, but will put you into a "flow" like state. Where you may become more creative, drown out distractions, notice time flying away, and achieve a pleasant sense of satisfaction from being productive for many hours.

They recommend using high quality headphones.

Spirit

Prayer. Meditation. Breathwork. Gratitude. These are all things I do each and every day without fail. Recently, I took my daily morning practice outside. I had forgotten how much more intense and meaningful this can be. Feeling the sunlight, hearing the birds, and breathing in fresh air really heightens one's awareness to a higher power.

To our reflection,

Lisa Schaffer
