Thoughtful Thursday…The single most important exercise you will ever do...

Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday. This GreenNote Fitness newsletter mindfully gathers and distills useful information that is supportive to our journey. It is my mission to educate, inspire, and propel you into action that moves you towards your goals and life of purpose. Take control of your journey today.

A few years I ago, I learned this single exercise that may be the most important one I’ve ever done.

A squat while standing on a stability ball? A single-arm push-up? A deadlift with eyes closed?

This type of exercise doesn’t require a gym membership or some fancy, multifunctional piece of equipment.

It does require a bit of time and space…after doing it, you will view the way you look at your life in an entirely different way.

Before doing this exercise, be sure you have plenty of time and that you won’t be interrupted. Give this gift of time and space to your self to complete the exercise.

First step is to grab a pen and paper. Yes, we are going old-school here. No tablets or computers or smart phones. You will be hand-writing which has been shown to foster more creativity.

Second step is to answer the following question:

If there were no limitations nor consequences, what would your average perfect day look like?

Dream big then a little bigger. This is your average day so what would each day look like…forever? Be as specific as you can. Close your eyes, see it, feel it, taste it, and smell it.

Answer these specific questions to help you describe your average perfect day. Give great care and thought for each.

Where would you live?

What would your house look like?

What would it smell like?

What time in the morning would you wake up?

What would you do in the morning?

What would you think about in the morning?

What would you have for breakfast?

Where would you go for the first part of the day?

What would you have for lunch?

Who would you eat with?

Who would your friends be?

What kind of conversations would you have with your friends?

What are your friends like?

What would you do for personal fulfillment?

What life purpose would you strive towards?

What would your business be?

What time would you start work?

What would you do in your business each day?

What are your clients like?

What’s your relationship like with your spouse and your family?

What would you do for family time?

What would you eat for dinner?

What would you talk about at dinner?

What would you do at night?

Who would you spend your time with?

What would your thoughts be as you went to sleep?

Maybe you are struggling with something right now. You’ve tried but just can’t break the grip of the chains you feel around your neck. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. What does your average perfect day feel like?

Take your time and go deep in thought. Dare to dream what your day could look like. Give great detail to get the most out of your life.

It is the single most important exercise you will ever do. Take your time in completing the exercise. You will discover things about yourself that will help move you in the right direction.

You may find that it might just break your binding chains. I know it did for me...

Enjoy your journey,

Lisa Schaffer
